One of the most frightening verses that can leave one almost helpless is found below;
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
Ephesians 6:12
We go about thinking that a particular person is our enemy or our problem but the Bible enlightens us that our fight is not against fellow humans. Our enemies are:
- Spiritual – we cannot see them
- Wicked – evil. Have no good intentions whatsoever.
- In high places – so far out of our reach.
This understanding frees us to love humans and give them grace despite what evil we assume they’ve done to us.
Meditate on these terrible words:
“Think seriously about how you live.
Watch carefully for danger.
Remember that the Devil is your enemy.
He wants to hurt you.
He walks about like a hungry lion.
He is looking for someone to kill and then eat them!”
1 Peter 5:8
Wow satan! You absolute, bloody wicked cannibal!
The person we may think is our worst enemy in the flesh will probably want to see us suffer and loose but will most likely care nothing for eating us but imagine this wicked devil who not only wants you destroyed but still wants to eat you after you are finished and beasts do not eat nicely. They devour – tear you apart.
Imagine satan feasting on the souls already with him in hell. What more do you want, satan!? This beast isn’t looking to eat nicely but to devour.
It’s like in the movies when someone has already killed another then goes back to shoot multiple times. They were dead the first time! Why go back to reshoot?
Our assurance remains “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ”- Ephesians 1:3
Christ. When we are in Christ, fully trusting in His finished work, we are blessed with ALL spiritual blessings in HEAVENLY places.
Do you see how Jesus Christ is not just a Source of blessing for us but indeed our only hope in this present world and that to come?
satan and his demons may be in high places but in Jesus Christ our Messiah, we are more than conquerors in heavenly places.
We are encouraged to be strong, stand firm in our faith and fight the devil back but not with carnal, physical weapons. Our battle armour is spiritual consisting of seven perfect weapons: salvation, righteousness, faith, truth, the Gospel of peace and the Word of God.
Bye satan. You’re done.
