There are times we wonder if what we thought was God speaking to us was really God speaking to us and may even conclude in the negative that it was only our imagination.
We don’t have to be unsure. There are simple, tried and tested ways to determine if that good Word we heard was from God (which we know He will do as long as He has said).
Firstly consider: at what point did the Word come?
“When they were but a few men in number; Yea, very few, and strangers in it.”Psalm 105:12
More likely than not and from the record of Scripture. This is always when God’s Word will come.
When we are inconsequential. When we are little and pining in obscurity. When the Word seems impossible. When reality laughs at the promise of His Word. When sense decries the logic in His promise. THIS is the time God sends His Word.
If it comes when there is physical success and all seems ‘well’, it is probably not God’s Word (except it’s for doom – Not me that says. Scripture records).
This is always always when He sends the Word and the reason is in verse 19: “Until the time that his word came: The word of the LORD tried him (Joseph).”
The Word He gives us WILL and must try us not for His sake but our own sake, to prove our faith.
He has given us His Word. We say we believe. Yes but ask Peter, our verbal claims are not to be trusted. We must put our actions where our mouth is. We must put our works where our faith is.
His Word will look like telling Abraham that through His Son, Isaac, His chosen people will come and then asking Him to kill that same Isaac.
His Word will look like giving Joseph a dream of the sun, moon and stars bowing to him and throwing him into prison and obscurity for years.
His Word will look like anointing David as king and keeping him on the run for his life for years.
Has God made a promise to you? Does reality laugh you in the face? Congratulations because what He says He will do. Beware because the same Word MUST try you.
Do you hope you could believe but struggle with unbelief. The one prayer you can pray is, ‘Lord, please help my unbelief’, because without faith it is IMPOSSIBLE to please God. No big faith required. Tiny, dot-like faith.
Oh You know, Lord. Between us, You know. ‘Behold the handmaiden of The Lord. Be it until me, according to Your Word’. Amen.
‘If He said it, He will do it’. #MaverickCityMusic.
