CHRISTIAN LIVING

COMMON SCRIPTURALLY UNSCRIPTURAL SAYINGS FOUNDED ON NO VERIFIABLE TRUTH

by

There are many more common sayings which are expressly not found in Scripture but have biblical sentiments such as, “spare the rod, spoil the child.”

However, the highlighted ones are worryingly questionable which have become common place and believed amongst professing Christians.

These are things which no Christian living by the written word of God should accept as Truth.

They might make some sense in some situations but should not be taken as principle or an instrument to measure the verity of any situation.

“…‘This people honour me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ You leave the commandment of God and hold to the tradition of men.” And he said to them, “You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God in order to establish your tradition!” (Mark 7:6-9)

There are so many more but the above are a few but let’s keep in mind a principle for determining what is fable and what is truth:

“TEST ALL things; hold fast that which is good” (1 Thessalonians 5:21)

  1. “A problem shared is half solved”
  2. “Marriage is not a bed of roses”
  3. “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.” “Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us.” 1 Thessalonians 2:18
  4. “Forgive and forget”
  5. “Do it as long as you’ve prayed and have peace about it”
  6. “God won’t give you more than you can handle”
  7. “This too shall pass”
  8. “Be true to yourself”
  9. “People don’t change” “First impression matters most”
  10. “It’s not in the Bible so we can’t speak on it”
  11. “Rest In Peace/ Heaven just gained an Angel.”
