CHRISTIAN LIVING

TO APPRECIATE WHO JESUS IS, WE MUST KNOW WHO HE WAS

by

It may sound like a broken record speaking about Jesus’ humility and how we are to learn from Him as a model and embodiment of  humility.

However, the depths, magnitude and significance of this humility would never be appreciated if we do not consider exactly who Jesus was:

Who was Jesus?

  • THE CREATOR OF EVERYTHING:
“All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made”
John‬ ‭1:3‬ & Colossians 1:16
  • THE OWNER OF THE WORLD:

“He was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and the world knew Him not”

John‬ ‭1:10‬
  • THE WORD OF GOD:

“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us”

John‬ ‭1:14‬.
  • THE VERY FORM (NATURE) OF GOD(Humans are made in the image/likeness of God but not in the form/ nature of God. When we become born again, we take on a new nature which is God’s. Jesus didn’t need to be born again. He came ‘born again’):

“who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God”

Philippians‬ ‭2:6‬
  • GOD HIMSELF:

“I and my Father are one”

John 10:30
  • THE IMAGE OF THE INVISIBLE GOD (Nobody can see God as He is face to face but He, God, put Himself in a body like ours and walked on these same grounds we walk on today so that we could look directly at Him):

“Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature”

Colossians‬ ‭1:15

Amongst others, He is the singular and only Way to God, the Mediator between God and man and above all, the ONLY begotten Son of God.

Why then is Jesus’ humility so profound?

Considering all that He was before coming to this world, “though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.”- Philippians‬ ‭2:6-7‬ ‭

It wasn’t just an innocent man who died for our sins that we might be saved. God Himself died for us to save us from Himself.

“For I tell you that Christ became a servant to the circumcised to show God’s truthfulness, in order to confirm the promises given to the patriarchs,”

Romans‬ ‭15:8‬

From the Nicene Creed:

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds (æons), Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father; by whom all things were made; who for us men, and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary, and was made man; he was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered, and was buried, and the third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of the Father…

Help me to honour You, Lord Jesus.
